Time after time

yoooo it's my last post of 2021!!

okay so i wanted to do the reflections thingy. these few years especially after starting my full time job, i always say that the years seem to fly by and nothing much seems to happen. but i guess maybe growing up, we got used to measuring things by milestones and tend to discount the little collages of things that happen every day. 

the song above is time after time by saosin (originally by cyndi lauper) and i feel like it pops into my head often because it resonates so much with me. it gives that sense of hope even if you feel lost in time. that things will get better. there will be better days. 

saosin's history is a good reflection of life itself. their original singer was anthony green, but he left in the early 2000s to start his own band. then this guy in high school, cove reber, was told by his friend that he sounded like anthony green, and should try out for the band. so cove sent in a recording, and the band thought it was anthony green playing a joke on them because they sounded so alike. and just like that at 19, cove became the singer of the band he looked up to, saosin. no it's not a wattpad story. LOL

saosin enjoyed a lot of success with cove fronting and he even wrote some songs on the self-titled album with saosin, which is arguably their best. but things slowly went downhill and cove became a heavy smoker, which ruined his amazing voice. finally in 2010, saosin announced that they had kicked cove out. now, cove was very young, inexperienced and probably naive when he first joined saosin. of course we will never know if saosin tried to help cove with his problems on a personal level, but as a band, you could tell that the individual members of saosin other than cove took their music very seriously. you could feel the tension in their later live performances when cove's voice started deteriorating. 

to me there was always this feeling that saosin had used cove for his talent and then kicked him out when he needed help the most. we'll never know the whole story, but anyway cove has since remarkably cleaned up his act, and is now back to singing with some personal projects. he even patched it up with the band and sang at one of their shows with anthony green who came back to saosin after cove was kicked out (lol).

sometimes in life you are cove. 

amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities will come your way that you simply cannot say no to. they will alter your course forever, and you'll never be the same once you've experienced such opportunities. you'll be slightly worn, sometimes you might feel quite used, and along the way you may pick up unhealthy habits to cope with the downsides of such life-changing episodes. when it is all over, you may fade into oblivion, expecting to remain there forever. but of course, nothing ever stays the same. new opportunities will still come your way and it will be entirely up to you to decide to take them up. and who knows, you may get your heyday someday again.

thanks for coming to my tedtalk. haha okay so things i did this year.

1) exercised abit more

2) spent more time with my family, thanks to covid. i've been hanging out a lot with my mum especially, and even learning new things about her e.g. she buys fruits every week for the family, and she'll tell me what she bought whenever i come home from work. so recently out of curiosity, i asked her what her favourite fruit was. she said "hm actually, i don't really like fruits. i just buy them for you all" i was super shocked LOL

3) moved house! spent more than 13 years in simei which is the longest i've lived anywhere (moved house many times when younger)

4) did LASIK FINALLY i am super loving the glasses free life :')

5) i think i was more adventurous with food this year! like trying affogato (LOVE it), black coffee, and oysters. also i went through a serious Kanu mint choco latte phase. now i'm going through a phase with their instant iced latte LOL love all their flavours so good

6) went on a cruise trip!! my first after many many years. too bad no disembarking :( hopefully travel is possible next year....

okay dats it. wow it just turned 12. HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVE

the next time i blog, it will be 2022 alr :') have an amazing weekend and year ahead everyone 💓

it's december!!! 

the next time i blog, it will be probably be in 2022. that's crazy.

this might be the fastest year that has ever gone by. i know i said i don't feel like i did anything in 2020, but this year was prolly even worse? the biggest development may have been switching to a new department at work. LOL. idek. 

if i'm bored enough i shall do the annual things-i-did-this-year and new year's resolution stuff in another post. but first, let's celebrate the best time of the year!!! i love christmas.

ok i forgot to mention a huge highlight... i WENT FOR LASIK FINALLY

i thought damn long about going, mainly cos i was afraid of complications. eyesight is so impt sia.

anw i went to a very highly rated one on google. and nO RAGRETS. she was so good.

i had zero problems with my recovery even though my prev doc said i was ineligible for lasik due to severe dry eye.

attended a colleague's wedding in end oct. my first time wearing heels out, surprisingly comfy

went to some mbs restaurant (bread kitchen?) cos we had an expiring voucher

food was quite nice! they had a carolina reaper sauce for the fried chicken they let us try that was mad spicy
