Ok so I've only been to 2 band concerts but it's enough for me to realise that there are quite a few interesting types of people who go to concerts. Here's 9 I came up with because I've nothing better to do.
They may or may not know the lyrics, but they could hardly care less about that. What they care about is the parts they can headbang to and mosh around and crowd-surf to. They're just there to have fun, they're not really listening to the music. They also somehow seem to come in gangs or large groups of at least four or five or more (and on the rare occasions you'll spot a girl in the group), and they may sometimes come across as annoying, especially if you're a girl and there's a bunch of huge sweaty guys moshing around behind you at a concert. There were a lot of these people at the Pierce The Veil concert and it was really scary for me because getting caught in the middle of a mosh pit when it's your first time at a real concert and you've no idea what to expect is no fun at all. Takes time to get used to it.
2. The Uninterested
These are the people who pretend to look bored, and who'll just stand there trying to look casual as they observe what's going on onstage and take in their surroundings. At the All Time Low concert there was a group of malay guys standing somewhere around the middle, closer to the back, and they were just standing there, all of them with their arms crossed as they nodded ever-so-slightly to the beat of the drums and tapped their feet now and then. I was doing my best not to laugh because honestly, anyone around them could tell they were torn between breaking out into dance and trying to look cool.
3. The Fangirl
There are quite a few different kinds of fangirls and fortunately I didn't come across any particularly annoying fangirls near me at either concert but I could hear and see some in the crowd. A lot of these girls are just there to check out the hot guys in the band, and to scream their names. For some reason, they also tend to be tone-deaf and most people will want to move away from them after a while.
4. The Fanboy
They're hardly as annoying as the fangirls. There was a J1 guy from my college at the ATL concert who was seriously a hardcore fanboy. He was also a fan of the opening act DBHB and just kept yelling "I LOVE YOU RO!" and the expression on his face when he was singing all the words and waving his arms in the air to the acoustic plays was just priceless. Truly a dedicated fanboy. Fanboys can be very fun to be with at concerts, and they'll also definitely provide you with endless entertainment if you spot one in the crowd.
5. The Kind Soul
They're the people who pass around water they somehow manage to snuck in and constantly watch out for those around them. I think I mentioned falling down in my ATL concert blog post and there was this guy who helped me up and yelled concernedly over the music at the moshers to back off and he disappeared into the crowd again before I could thank him, presumably to go help other people up. People like him are honestly life-savers because if nobody bothered to stop and help us up, it could've ended really badly.
6. The Videographer
They're the Adam Elmakias of band concerts. There will always be that one person with a camera up in the air, carefully videotaping every song down. Most of it usually ends up on youtube, not that it's a bad thing anyway. It's good for people like us who want to watch the recordings again in future, but sometimes I wonder what's the point of going to a concert just to concentrate on filming everything down. Might as well log on to youtube then, saves you the time and money haha. Sometimes I regret not filming more down of the concerts down too but then I think about how much fun I had just being there and I feel glad I didn't tape down much.
7. The Dancer
The dancers are the people who completely lose themselves in the songs. They'll be moving to the beat and singing along with their arms in the air and sometimes with their eyes closed. Very interesting to watch.
8. The Poser
The people everyone hate. They buy tickets (which means more deserving fans can't have them) just so they can look cool like hey, I'm going to a rock concert. You can easily tell them apart from the real fans by watching their lips- they're often mouthing the wrong words so it'll seem like they know the band and the songs. Then after the concert they go around pretending they loved the concert and that they're huge fans of the band and if anyone thinks that isn't so, they're wrong because they've actually seen the band live so there. Hah. The concerts they attend are like medals to show off.
9. The Party Pooper
The people who go "TSK" and turn to glare at you if you go so far as to accidentally step on their toe or bump into them. Get anywhere within a 3cm radius of them and they'll be keeping a real close eye on you. It doesn't matter if concerts are supposed to be so packed and cramped that most people can't even pull their arm out from the compressed space they're standing in. If you even prod them they'll still give you the evil eye.
Can't believe I spent so much time on this haha anyways.

And and this is the most productive weekend I've had so far hehe even though I didn't actually do a lot of work it feels like I did plus I had some awesome good food on saturday- bak kut teh with the fam for lunch at tanjong katong road and sushi tei for dinner at tamp, also with the fam.
