Six feet happily underground

I've been wanting to blog for some time now but I'm just so busy.

My life in a nutshell these days:
1. Get up
2. School
3. Band practice
4. Rush homework and revision
5. Sleep

It's been revolving around all these three things. It's kind of taxing.

I've been spending a lot of time on band practice because we really want to make it through our teachers' day concert auditions, which are tomorrow, and honestly, I don't know if it's worth sacrificing the time I could use to do my homework and revise on band practice.

But anyway, what's done is done. And since I'm already in the group, I might as well give it my best shot. If we make it through, after I graduate I can say it was the highlight of my college days.

If we don't... well. I'm gonna be pissed. Ahaha.

But of course life is never ever smooth-sailing and I've developed a sore throat. I really really hope I get loads better by tomorrow for the auditions because I might be singing, soo.

Let's hope for a miracle :)

that's about it for now. I have four CAs next week and I'm definitely not ready.

Your call

Helloooooo.

Once again I apologise for the lack of updates. Everything about college screams "NO TIME"

Would like to say something really random and that is that I think I'll miss tpjcians after I graduate.

After half a year I'm finally starting to settle in and realise that two years is really too little time. Before you know it it'll be the end of the year, and then we'll all be busy mugging for 'A's and then BAM. Graduation day.

Recently I've been thinking about how different jcs and polys are, and it's kind of interesting because the few times I've been to polys, especially RP, it's like a whole new world down there. Really.

A world full of mohawks, dyed hair, loud music, art and fun.

Everyone there just seemed so confident and at ease with themselves, with all the funky clothes and loud chatter. And after the weekend I went back to college and all the differences were just so obvious.

My previous bandmates were all from polys and they all live in the west; I was the only college kid and the only one living in the east.

The drummer's mom also used to drum. Both their parents encouraged them to do what they liked and play music if it was what made them happy. My mom told me to quit when I told her I'd joined a band.

The very few times we met up, we talked about a lot of things; about all the places we'd play in, what we were going to do when we got famous, possible new band names and all that.

They would headbang in the studio and laugh about it, and go into random improv sessions.

My current bandmates are all from my college. We jam and have fun, but we don't talk about playing gigs or making it big. We don't have a band name yet.

I'm not saying that I don't have fun or it's a bad thing or anything like that, because I do enjoy myself. It's just that it's different.

And maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's just me, but I feel like that's just the way college and poly kids are.

College kids are taught to stay on the sidewalk and keep following the pavement. Poly kids are taught that sometimes it's okay to cross the road.

Musings aside, (haha that makes me sound so old) how's life?

I'm actually quite happy with the way things are right now.

I'm trying to do my homework and revision consistently (though there's almost always no time for revision) and school is actually kinda fun.

I like school, is that weird? Oh but I get pissed when there's anything that I don't understand in class or in lectures.

Today I couldn't understand this chem question and I sat there feeling extremely grouchy. I was sitting with Huiyi but I don't think she realised I was sulking over a chem question haha ok that's good.

So yep, that's it for now.

Homework time yay

But where's your heart?

Today during pe we had to do a bunch of exercises and while we were all tired and attempting push-ups I turned to see Huiyi sprawled out on the floor dying and I laughed so hard I couldn't do anymore push-ups.

Pe today was so fun hahaha gosh. I like the new PE teacher, she's very understanding and neither too strict nor laidback.

I was rushing through my chem practical and kept looking at the clock because I was anxious to leave for our band meetup ahaha.

My least favourite lesson is definitely chem practical; I always feel so lost during practicals and too lazy to move around to do the practical itself.

Jamming was awesome :) I think I was kinda quiet and definitely not my normal self around my bandmates since they're much closer to one another than I am to them; we just get together to play music.

But I really don't mind because playing was so fun :) They liked doing famous last words, we played that song maybe five times and I'm happy cause it was my suggestion to do that song HAHA

I was so tired after jamming but it was all worth it.

Ok off to bed. TGIF tomorrow haha. And happy Friday the 13th in advance everyone!

Last but definitely not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LYN CHUA I LOVE YOU LOTS <333

Not good enough for truth or cliche

Been listening to a few Escape The Fate songs recently and I really like them :)

And I'm sorry for the lack of updates recently, I really am D: I keep wanting to blog but there's really no time, ugh. That's college life for you.

I've gotten back all my papers except our GP Paper 1 and I'm soooo disappointed. I wish I knew what to do to do well for math. I also screwed my econs and chem.

I'm so tired. I've been rushing homework and trying to stop procrastinating and look, I'm even blogging on the bus on the way home to save time ahaha time management +10.

The only really positive things now in my life are getting to meet up with my best friends sometimes after school or on weekends, the bus rides to school because I get to listen to music and just think, and the fact that I'm going jamming with my band this thursday.

I'm so glad I decided to try to form a band in college because playing music just makes me so happy.

And I know being in college in singapore means serious business and there's almost no time for playing in a band or anything like that, but this is my release.

Most people don't understand how much I look forward to the next jamming session and how I love just being in a studio playing, especially the bass guitar. I'm in love with it.

On a more depressing note, sometimes I just feel like crashing from all the workload. I feel this constant need to outperform myself everytime I do something in school, does that make sense?

Like (ok, put blatantly, I'm sorry) I'm already in one of the worst colleges in the country and if I don't do well, I'm screwed because my two years of hard work will all be in vain.

I'm so terrified of failure after what happened on results day; you have no idea how it feels to see the cert that concludes your four years of being in a school and realise that everyone has done so much better than you and they're going to great colleges and there you are sobbing.

Maybe I'm stressed or just overstating how I really feel, I don't know. But like most of the kids out there these days, I'm so tired of singapore putting so much emphasis on academics and judging everything about you based on grades.

Yesterday a classmate cried because she'd had a bad day. She'd received yet another bad grade, and she was upset. But guess what? Yesterday was also her birthday.

No one should be allowed to cry like that on their birthday; just looking at her and not knowing the words to say to make her feel better made me feel like crying as well.

And it really hit me hard because, really, is studies actually everything?

Do we wake up every morning with dark eye circles, give up our hobbies and dreams, lose our friends and time with our families just to so-called secure a happier, brighter future?

Isn't it ironic at all? :(

But yeah. Maybe I'm being overly dramatic, idk. Maybe I've just had a rough day and my flu is getting to me.

This song is every word I left unspoken

Pictures from two days ago at Republic Poly with Jiams and Et <3

There's a picture of Dropbeat Heartbeat and us, and them receiving their 3rd prize award :)

Do you miss the way the world was spinning for us?

Yesterday was another crazy day, me and Jiams went to Baybeats @ Esplanade!

Baybeats is an annual 3-day music event held at different venues at the Esplanade where bands perform from 6pm to after 12am.

We were at kembangan MRT station yesterday on our way to kallang to buy Jiams' floorball stick when she told me about Baybeats and asked if I wanted to go.

I said sounds cool and asked when and she replied, "tonight." me: "TONIGHT?!"

So yeah but of course we still went. It's an annual thing!

Baybeats was amazing, me and Jiams went to the Arena first and the very first set we watched was a band called Anechois. They were really great, but kind of like indie rock and it wasn't my cup of tea. But still great.

We watched maybe six or seven bands throughout the night, and one of my favourites was a band called Cashew Chemists that had a 70s-pop vibe. Think I Get Around by Beach Boys and That Thing You Do by The Wonders.

Catchy basslines and memorable hooks. Very lovely band. And in the background there was the Singapore River and it was dusk and there were the occasional fireworks because there happened to be a rehearsal for NDP. Such a pretty setting :')

I actually only have two favourites, the other was THE most amazing three-man band I have ever seen in my life.

Everyone in the band was drop-dead talented. The frontman played guitar and had such incredible skill omg. The bassist was nuts. The drummer was downright crazy!

Halfway through one of their songs there was a glitch and the guitarist couldn't be heard suddenly, and while the crew was trying to fix the problem, the bassist and drummer just kept going damn.

Sadly they weren't a local band. They were called PLOT and they're actually Thai. They could barely form proper sentences in English during the short intervals they stopped playing between songs but when they played, everyone just went crazy. Shows that music really is the universal language :')

Jiams and I really enjoyed ourselves. Definitely going to Baybeats again next year, if we can find the time! :/

So my four-day break from after exams is coming to a close. Next week we'll probably be getting back all our papers and it'll be back to school and work again.

Oh and it's also July 1st. I think June passed by really quickly. Like I didn't even have time to process the fact that May was over, and now it's July already.

But honestly, I enjoyed June although I spent most of it studying for my SAs and taking exams. It feels different from all the past June holidays, but great nonetheless. It was also awesome to conclude June with the break right after exams :)

I hope July will be just as fun-filled and interesting.
