mum: "so, for your birthday i'll just give you my diamond earrings okay?"
me: "oh..." (cos i would have preferred an ang pao)
mum: "not cheap ok. i bought them many many many years ago, for $500."
me: "wow. you only bought one pair ah?" (cos i have 3 piercings)
mum: "ya...... how would i know at the time that my daughter would have 3 piercings??"

getting home early on a weekday and having dinner with my mama is always nice 😌
