5.13.14
yesterday i found a mouse on my back porch. i named him herbert... possibly because that name kinda sounds like "her butt" to me and that made me laugh, but also because his face looked like 31st president of the united states, herbert hoover. google it.
he was lying very peaceful and still on an old tupperware bin i had some yard tools and such in.
     for a moment or two while watching him sleep i thought to myself;
'really? so this son of a bitch climbed up on my tupperware and took a nap huh?...wow, that's fucking ballzy...and also quite lazy. shit, i wish i had thought of that...i could use a nap. actually if i were a field mouse who looked like the 31st president of the united states, herbert hoover, and had fuck all to do today i would probably have thought of that. i'd climb right up on some dumb human's porch, take a shit on their picnic table, eat some old junk they left lying around, and take a big fat nap right there on their comfy ass tupperware bin they provided me, conveniently located on their shady back porch on a lukewarm day. because of course that's clearly what it's there for... mouse napping. no way anyone would travel to a store and purchase this tupperware bin for any other purpose. say housing yard tools, or the storage of things important to the upkeep of a property. and you know what? fuck it if they did. cause i'm herbert the chubby cheeked field mouse and i can do whatever the fuck i want with no goddamn sense of re...'
...and thats when a cool spring breeze carried the waft of pure decomposition that stopped me mid thought like a bright red train crossing.
sorry herbert... you go ahead and rest awhile. xofrnk

i love putting on a shirt or jacket i haven't worn in awhile and finding pocket treasures. an old receipt, a crumbled up piece of paper with a note scribbled on it, maybe a movie ticket from a few years ago. are they insignificant pieces of garbage? or relics of a former life, begging to remind you that there was in fact a world you existed in before you woke up this morning?
at times it can be easy to get wrapped up. to take things for granted, to forget our surroundings or the small experiences of our past... but make no mistake, these neural connections, no matter how tiny, are important to the person you are and the person you may become. nothing is trivial, everything matters even if it's been pushed to the back of your mind for a little while. i enjoy being made aware of that from time to time.
we are who we are, because of who we were and where we've been. xofrnk.

Oh, Frank Iero. Just as relatable in music, as you are in writing.
Sometimes I read his blog and remember why I wanted to get his name as a tattoo.

All I want to do is trade this life for something new

Been feeling kinda blue lately...

I think it's partly the feeling of flying back from a good holiday. And the lack of music. I didn't touch my music player at all during the time I was in Bangkok.

I also suddenly feel stressed, thinking about starting university. There seems to be so many things to do and I still have almost no idea about how the whole uni system works and the thought of having to socialise and make new friends... :( meeting new people is really not my thing man.

With the exception of meeting potential bandmates of course. There's endless things to talk about when you meet someone with similar music interests, or maybe that's just in my case. By the time I was sixteen I'd been in more bands than relationships.

Today Lianne and I went to the briefing on LPP at NUS. It was quite ok, at least we got to learn more about it. I think we're both kind of gluttony hahahaha so after that we went to have a quick snack at Clementi Mall.

Met a nice lady who happened to sit down next to us and showed us this newspaper article on a girl who got raped by her JC guy friend of 5 years in the UK, saying we should read it.

The ride home was damn tiring I tell ya. Stood all the way from Clementi to Tanah Merah, that's a grand total of 19 train stops! And there was a baby screeching uncontrollably in the later half of the ride. Everyone was so annoyed.

I can't imagine feeling deadbeat after a long day at school and still having to stand all the way to Simei on a packed train. The thought of it is so :(

Abrupt end haha bye

You and me were kings over the parkway tonight

Nihao.

I am back from Bangkok!!!!

It was totally gr8. And I think a 5D4N trip is just nice. I had fun!

The great thing about travelling with your rents is that they seem to know everything and easily take care of all the technical stuff like passports, transport, and of course, costs. -wink-

But I felt pretty bad spending their money since I was earning my own keep already, so I didn't buy a lot of stuff. Only bought 3 tops and some paper products. I really love paper products! Pretty paper, notebooks, wooden things bla bla.

Oh and Thai guys are cute! Saw this tall guy on the train from the airport on our first day who had a polished arctic monkeys look ermahgerd so sad that I'll never see him again :'(

The trip was super shiok because literally all we did was shop, eat and sleep. Stayed at Centre Grand @ Terminal 21 and it was so pretty! The room was big, view from 30th floor was stunning and service was excellent. Ate all kinds of cheap and good food for the past 4 days. Felt so good to be stuffed full every lunch and dinner hahaha.

I think the pace was also just right for me because my parents would shop for 2 hours tops before getting tired, and I always get tired easily (or rather bored) from shopping so we would go find food and sit down to eat.

I remember going with the hotbabes to Taiwan at the end of sec4 and I was so shocked at how girls can be so crazy about shopping. Hahaha. There was one night when I was so exhausted that when we finally sat down, I got a dizzy spell.

So anyways, in the end I ended up spending the least out of the 3 of us, and my dad bought the most. Haha

It feels good to be back home!! I haven't showered since coming home and I'm super sticky now but the thought of washing the clothes I bought... :(

Can't wait to surf youtube again and play Neopets after my bath! Heh heh

Leaving for Bangkok today :)

I'll be in another country by the evening today! It's so exciting. Hahahahaha

Will be back by wednesday the 11th, so I don't think I'll be blogging till then.

Goodbye my friends

What if I say I'm not like the others?

Ugh. I love it when drummers play like they're trying to drill a hole right through that snare.

The drugs begin to peak

Watching Silverstein play My Heroine live acoustic now on Youtube, and it's so awesome. They sound amazing.

There's a guy in the front row, spiked hair, gotta be more than six feet tall, a whole sleeve on his left arm, and a guy with a really thick beard on his right, and a young girl to his left, and none of them know one another but they're all singing the same songs in their different voices, the same words on their lips. The sound combined makes a wonderful chorus.

Makes me think of the Mayday Parade concert when I was standing between a malay guy and a gay girl, and despite our differences, for those few hours it felt like we were all the same. Just a swarm of sweaty bodies pressed against one another, singing our hearts out to the songs we all loved, having the time of our lives.

Music really does bring people together.

I hope it rains there all the time

I'm in the mood to go out and play some music. I miss band meetings. Can't wait for July to come. The hiatus will be lifted by then.

Today was the first day of June and it was spent lazing around. I missed the noon church bells :( I actually made a list a few weeks ago on all the things I wanted to do for the next two months but I haven't gotten started on anything yet.

I shall start soon!

Another day late and one year older

Mom said no to me and tattoos. Expected, but still.

Had dinner with L and T last night at Tamp. We haven't met as a trio in super long! Hung around the mall and then went to the library. I got meself another book, woohoo.

I was really tired and conked out at 9.30pm after I got home. Then I had a really bad dream and woke up at 2am. It sucked because after that I couldn't get back to sleep. It was just eerily quiet, save for the occasional traffic outside, and my heart was still beating fast from the dream and I was hungry. It was so awful.

Heard my phone buzz and it was a text from SJ so I called her and she was like, "omg why are you still awake?!" hahaha

Chatted till 3+ and finally went back to sleep. Woke at 8am to a text from Jz asking if I was coming and I was like WHAT then I realised we were supposed to go visit Mrs Sng at 8am today. -insert horrified emoticon here-

Got there at 8.30. It was a leeetle awkward for me cause my closest friends from music class weren't there, but it was still ok. Attempted to bake brownies with Faith (literally the first time I've been that involved in the kitchen) but they turned out pretty underdone hahaha it was so sad but everyone was kind enough to eat it up without much comment because mrs sng was rushing for time.

And Keren is soooo cute, oh my. But I'm a bit scared of babies.

Gonna get some lunch now bye

Dragonfly out in the sun

I have the hots for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Get it get it? HAHAHAHA oh lord why am I so funny

So yesterday was my last day and it was gr8. If only every day was my last day! The time passed so quickly and everyone was so nice to me. Haha.

After it ended I grabbed a quick lunch (is it just me or is food these days getting more and more expensive and less and less nice) before going for my fourth drum lesson. I love lessons! It was probably the thing I looked forward to most every week when I was working, since the band is on a temporary hiatus cause some of us are overseas.

Teacher said I learn very fast and so we'll move on to things other than the snare soon yayyy I'm eggcited

Then I helped my mom with some household chores before going to meet Wumsy for dinner. Cleaning the floor while blasting music is always a good idea. It feels like a good workout more than a ugh-stupid-household-chores-why-am-I-doing-this-ugh thing.

Wumsy and I shared three plates of food for dinner at Old Airport Road. Couldn't finish the char kway teow which was quite a waste because it was kind of nice to me but I really had no more room :(

Then I bought juice and she bought a milkshake and we lepak-ed at the playground.

I had fun, Wums! Please get off my blog. I know you're reading this.

Today I woke up early and met Shijia for breakfast (thanks for helping me crack the eggs!) and we headed to school to look around because it was sports day.

It was nothing much actually, though it makes me kind of miss our sports days cause they were pretty fun, but nope I definitely don't miss JC overall hahaha the thought of mugging, yarks.

We had lunch at kfc, then she and Wenjing went to catch XMen and I walked home. I love walking home, but only if I'm in comfortable attire.

It's been a good past two busy days. Feels kinda funny to be unemployed again after 20 weeks of working. But a good feeling, nonetheless.

Bye

It's girls like you that make me think I'm better off home on a Saturday night with all my doors locked up tight

Why is it so hot omg.

My air-conditioner is switched on and working well but omg it's still so hot.

Three days left of work and I feel great. I already have my workfits planned out- dresses for the next two days, and a plain white tee and jeans for the last day cause screw it, it's my last day :D (ohmy I haven't used this face in forever)

I have a random urge to get drunk. Anyone with meh?

If you only knew

It's four-o-three
And I can't sleep
Without you next to me
I toss and turn like the sea

Ahahahah so appropriate rn but I really can't sleep and that sucks. Regretting drinking tea at 9pm now.

Gotta get up in about 4.5 more hours for work. Howww.

Jude Law And A Semester Abroad

Tell all the English boys you meet
About the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
Who would do anything you say

I listened to Your Favourite Weapon for the first time yesterday and I played it three times because it was so perfect I could cry.

Sin with a grin

Heyz.

Realise I forgot to blog about Monday.

I took leave on Monday. Woke up at 9am feeling gooood-

"It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good"

(sorry I just had to)

-because I could finally see some sunlight when I woke up yay.

Jio-ed SJJ to go watch Godzilla with me. She was asking me to watch it with her a couple of days back, but I thought the trailer and movie poster looked pretty lame so I said nah, but then I read that there were good reviews for the movie so I changed my mind hahaha

It was much better than I expected actually! I think it's a great movie to watch with friends or kids but I wouldn't spend more than $6.50 on it. Plus Godzilla is so cute! I think I still prefer the 1998 hit though. It was such a classic.

Then I had dinner with Lifang at Ikea. They weren't selling the pork ribs anymore :(

We got too much food ahaha I should've gotten the kiddy pasta. And we shared a plateful of broccoli for $1.50, pretty worth it I'd say but it was kind of icky when it got cold. But oh well, still good.

Then we realised we both played QuizUp and we sat there for an hour challenging each other, it was funnn. QuizUp is awesome but it makes me so competitive omg the worst players are the Level 40+ ones who keep re-matching you and you keep losing but you can't stop accepting the challenges because you're so mad that you keep losing to this arrogant fruitsie tootsie >:(

And then today was my third drum lesson! It's weird how it's already been three weeks. Time passes sooo fast.

I think my drum teacher is gay.
First lesson: Didn't notice a thing.
Second lesson: He got teh-peng on his finger and took out a bottle of hand sanitizer.
Third lesson: He wore a colourful scarf in a fancy knot around his neck.

But then again he could be pansexual for all I care cause he drums awesome and he's blunt as hell and I like straightforward teachers, instead of the kinds who go on and on and on just to tell you one thing.

Today was theory which was fun because: thank you, classical music background.

He said it was the best theory lesson he'd had in his life. -wipes tear-

Tomorrow is a Fridayyy and I'm going to Bras Basah with Dods to find my practice pad yay ok good night.

Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

Two of my friends are in Thailand and Taiwan, my BFF is busy with school and three of my five bandmates are in three different countries (no jamming for like one month, it is really upsetting) and yet somehow I'm soo busy.

I didn't even have time to play Neopets until today :(

Yesterday, I met up with Shijia and we went back to JC to visit Wenjing and collect our SGCs. School looks the same except the PE attire has changed. It looks absolutely terrible.

I actually think I'm really lucky to have been born in 95. We were the last AHS batch with the nicer PE shirt and the last TPJ batch with no Tie Day. Oh, and in my primary school we were the principal's most loved batch because he joined the school when we were P1 and left when we were P6.

Anyway, I thought I would feel nostalgic to be back in school since Results Day but as we walked past all the familiar places I was just thinking, thank God I'm out of here.

I said, "This place gives me the creeps," and SJ said "YA."

We played badminton and it was funnnn even though I'm horrible.

Then we walked past Meranti and the other classrooms to go home and we could see people mugging through the glass walls and it was like OHYEAH HAHA.

Also, I don't like talking about unpleasant things or unpleasant people (what is the difference actually) but kids these days are atrocious, or maybe it's just the kids from the primary school I'm working at.

Out of every 7 or 8 kids that come in, only 1 says 'thank you', and out of every 10 kids that come in, only 1 says 'hello'. (I don't think I've heard anyone say 'good morning' so far.)

Where have all the manners gone?

Yesterday an upper primary boy needed help with something, I can't remember what it was, but after I was done helping him and gave him his papers, he just ran off out the door without another look, and I was so pissed I muttered, 'you're (censored) welcome.'

I can't help but compare children to animals or monsters every time I see them nowadays.

I mean, they give you devilish grins, they're small but sly and ungrateful, and their worksheets and consent forms always look like they've been chomped on and spat out again.

There are two pianos outside the general office that have not been there for long but are dirty and battered and have broken keys. Like, leave a pair of good pianos all alone out there in the wild and that's what happens.

Every time I walk past those pianos, they remind me of the scene in Jurassic Park where the paleontologist lowers a chunk of meat into the Velociraptor cage, and when it comes out again it's just a few shreds of bloody remains.

So yah, conclusion: little kids scare the living shit outta me. (music reference, anybody?)

Black Sheep

Re-watched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World last Sunday, mainly for Kieran Culkin. It was much better than watching it the first time, probably because I was more prepared for the fighting scenes. I managed to finish it and I think Young Neil and Knives make an adorable couple, but more like a cute-summer-fling-that-won't-last kind of adorable.

The video shown above is awesome because:
1. It's one of my favourite songs from the soundtrack
2. It's beautifully edited
3. It showcases all the wonderful characters and most of the best (and more serious) parts of the film.

About glory

Nihao.

It's the end of another tiring week!

Visited the NUS FASS Open House 2014 today with Lianne and it made me feel really happy because somehow I suddenly feel like this is the path for me and I made the right decision choosing to study arts & social science.

Now I actually feel excited to start school again. Hahaha.

And, went to Star Vista for the first time today, it's a hugeass mall at Buona and it was a Saturday afternoon but the mall was virtually empty and it was soo big and pretty! If it wasn't so far I'd go there all the time.

Now I really think the East side is over-developed and over-populated. Every single mall is always congested (well, by my standards) and it's even worse during peak hour and on weekends.

Plus there is a Swee Lee at Star Vista, I think my eyes shone when I saw it.

Anyway, I'm taking an off-day on Monday, woohoo. It's so tiring getting up at 5.30am every day.

Two more weeks till I'm freeeee hehe (sorry short post, nothing much to blog about)

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Happy hump day!

The weather has been awful lately. I'm so glad it rained today.

Just two weeks left to the end of work. I'm eggcited!

I already have a list of things to do for the next two months hahaha. Honestly, I think I'll get bored after like two weeks of freedom but for now I'm really looking forward to being jobless.

Soon, I can take my morning poop whenever I want and not feel bad about not being there to man the counter!

Tomorrow is my second drum lesson and I'm stoked, even if my drums teacher is kind of intimidating.

It's been a tiring few days recently so I think I'll sleep early

Good night

Play Crack The Sky

We sent out the SOS call.

It was a quarter past four in the morning when the storm broke our second anchor line.

Four months at sea, four months of calm seas to be pounded in the shallows off the tip of Montauk Point.

They call them rogues, they travel fast and alone- one hundred foot-faces of God's good ocean gone wrong.

What they call love is a risk, because you will always get hit out of nowhere by some wave and end up on your own.

The hole in the hull defied the crew's attempts to bail us out, and flooded the engines and radio and half-buried bow.

Your tongue is a rudder; it steers the whole ship.

It sends your words past your lips and keeps them safe behind your teeth.

But the wrong words will strand you, come off course while you sleep.

Sweep your boat out to sea or dashed to bits on the reef.

The vessel groans, the ocean pressures its frame.

To the port, I see the lighthouse through the sleet and the rain.

And I wish for one more day to give my love and repay debts.

But the morning finds our bodies washed up thirty miles west.

They say that the captain stays fast with the ship through still and storm.

But this ain't the Dakota, and the water's so cold.

Won't have to fight for long.

This is the end.

This story's old but it goes on and on until it disappears.

Calm me and let me taste the salt you breathed while you were underneath

I am the one who haunts your dreams of mountains sunk below the sea

I spoke the words but never gave a thought to what they all could mean

I know that this is what you want; a funeral keeps both of us apart.

You know that you are not alone

Need you like water in my lungs

This is the end.

Cyanide sweet tooth suicide

Life is good :)

Might be partly cause it's a Fridayyyyy.

Gonna meet Wums tomorrow to study. Well, she's gonna study. I might head to the library later to get me some books. Planned to run initially but nah, change of plans. I'm poofed.

I bought my first pair of drumsticks!

They're Pro-mark, 5B. Bought the heavier ones cause of my obsession with hard rock.

On a completely unrelated note, I feel like I owe someone an apology though I actually don't completely do, but I still feel bad about it because I'm to blame for about 10% of it, and at the same time I don't want to sound paranoid or over-sensitive for apologising for something that mostly wasn't my fault.

So, should I make the apology? Haha.

Here's another quizzy quiche quiche.

1. First name?
Technically my first name is my surname, but anyway my name is Zoey.
Fun fact: I only have eight characters in my full name, including a spacing.

2. Do you have a best friend?
Yesh.

3. What country are you from?
Singapore. There's nothing here. I'd like to live elsewhere. I know its sounds kind of ungrateful like I don't appreciate what I have but I really do, every day I count my blessings and think about how lucky I am to be born here, but then the grass is always greener on the other side.

4. What book are you reading at the moment?
A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway. I've been 'reading it at the moment' for about two years now.

5. Hair colour?
Dark brown, all natural baby. I used to half-want to dye it but the want kind of faded.

6. Do you collect anything?
Nope, but I would love to collect mugs or notebooks or guitar picks.

7. Did you finish high school?
Yes

8. Do you believe in karma?
A little?

9. Do you believe in God?
Yep.

10. Have you ever cheated?
Yeah... on tests.

11. Halloween or Christmas?
Christmas, hands down. I love Christmas.

12. Piano or guitar?
Bass bass bass

13. How many pillows do you sleep with?
Two.

14. What mood are you in right now?
A great mood because the evening weather is great (omg I forgot to go to the library) and I have had my tea and finally some free time after the busy week and I'm listening to one of my all-time favourite albums, The Sound of Madness by Shinedown.

15. How's the weather at the moment?
Cool.

16. Night or day?
Day.

17. Favourite fictional character?
Not sure, maybe Seth Ryan from a Wattpad story called Just What I Needed, or Axel from Saved By The Music by Selene Castrovilla.

18. Are you the life at the party?
No haha

19. Do you sleep with your cupboard doors open or closed?
Closed, omg who sleeps with it open

20. Do you count your steps when you walk?
No.

And it's green, too

Hello

Quick update before I collapse on my bed.

Was informed today that I won't be able to extend my contract till June cause the school won't be needing a receptionist during the June holidays. I guess that's sort of a blessing in disguise cause recently I realised how busy I'll be for the two months after that. Oh well. Life is funny.

Met with the band again last night, all the way at Yishun omg. Took a train ride there during peak hour and it was horrendous. Plus the studio wasn't really that great to me but the others liked it, but it might just be because the bass cables I used sucked, so maybe next time I'll bring my own.

I signed up for beginner drum lessons recently and today was my first lesson! Learnt some basic stuff but it was pretty interesting. But funny thing was the lessons are only half an hour each, so I just went in and sat down and it was like listening to a lecture for that half an hour. I was compelled to take out a notebook but at the end of it my new teacher gave me a manuscript book and wrote down stuff for me so it's all good.

Then I met Carmen today, finally managed to meet and catch up today, because she's gonna leave for Georgia soon to study art. It was like we never lost touch hahaha we laughed at stupid times and talked about old times and the future.

I seriously never realised how young and dumb we used to be haha and looking back I really think we've matured. We may have done stupid things and said even sillier stuff in the past but honestly I don't regret anything, mainly cause I've learnt a lot from it all. Anyway we were laughing like loonies on the bus and she missed her stop hahaha.

And before I go.

Calendar quotes are mostly rubbish but this month's on mine caught my eye.

"The most important thing is to be in love with something."

Author is Ray B. No idea who Ray B is, but he's definitely got one thing right.

Good night and TGIF in advance!!!

Let's blow a hole in this town

"The papers say
Johnny, won't you come back home?
Cause everybody knows you don't
Wanna give yourself up
Tell the truth and God will save you"

Finally listening to an MCR song for the first time in eons... and it still breaks my heart. I miss them so much.

There were times when they felt like the only real thing to me and part of the 'now' me attributes it to the 'then' me going through the tough life cycle stage of adolescence and the 14-year-old me's need for an idol, someone to look up to.

But most of me knows that that was something special about this band that drew me to them, and even now, when I listen to their old songs and feel like something's punching my gut, I still hear nothing but pure brilliance and musical genius in their music, and their lyrics still hit me as deeply as they did the first time I heard them.

Here comes the rain again, falling from the stars

Hi

Spent Sunday afternoon lazing at Wumsy's, playing Neopets. I know only primary school kids do that but it's fun.

Yesterday was Monday and I went to meet Lianne and we swam at Pasir Ris Complex. I hadn't gotten into a pool in literally three years and I couldn't even finish one lap HAHA while the pro completed about 30 (?) with a couple of short breaks (mainly to stop by me catching my breath and encourage me to carry on hahahaha)

Then we had Subway and then dessert at WS foodcourt. Saw an auntie taking a picture of her food hahaha and it triggered off a convo on if we could publish all our blog posts into a book by the time we're 80. Hrmm.

Work as a receptionist has been sometimes tiring but definitely much much less tiring than being a relief teacher ("Double negative, that's tricky." Ten points for whoever gets this movie reference) and I would say it's a great job. I don't hate it and the not-so-nice part is having to wake up at 5.30am every day, but oh well, you give and take a little.

So anyway I think I'll be working for the next 6 weeks, then slacking my butt off for the next 6 weeks after that. Yep, dividing my 3 months into exactly half. It's so weird having soooo much time all to myself, when the past 2 years I've been rushing through the clock- studying, having after-school stuff, having tests and exams blah blah- and now I have more than enough time to rest before uni starts.

Argh uni haha. Mixed feelings man. Thank God I'll have Lianne with me! It's funny how life works. When I first met her in sec1 I don't think I ever thought we would be friends that long hahaha like we actually stayed close all throughout secondary school and JC and now we're both going to the same university and the same faculty and most likely the same course!! Me, her and Tania, we basically grew up together man. (Aww)

Oh and got my congratulatory note from NTU yesterday. Yayyers. Although I'm not going there it still feels shuang hahahaha

Also, does anyone like going to Marketplace? I looove going to Marketplace every Saturday at i12 with my mom. They have all the coolest things there (I actually found basil pesto there!) and their dairy products section is like four times the size of NTUC's. Not even keeding.

K bedtime, good night!

I spent most nights awake, wide awake

I never thought that I, oh I would see the day

Where I let you walk away"

Not really an indie rock person but somehow this is really great. The vocals are fitting, the standard pop punk-ish chords (Ooh pop punk. Might be the reason why I love this song. Even I've written a thing with the same chords haha), the very memorable chorus, the overall polished sound with just the right amount of vocal angst (drummer sounds like Jason Lancaster) to give it a slightly hardcore edge. Yummy piece.

Deadbeat six feet dead underground

TGIF!!! End to another tiring (but sort of fun) week. Can't wait to sleep in on the weekend.

Met up with the band yesterday night again. Shijia tagged along too!

Me: "Guys can my friend come along?"
Drummer: "Pretty or not?"

Hahahaha

Was in the studio playing and thinking, wow if this is happiness, then it's pretty darn simple, ainnit.

But anyway, I lost my favourite pick while playing at home the other day. It was 1.5mm which is really thick and it's great for me because I tend to strike the strings pretty hard (three years of being a punk/hard rock lover has shaped my playing) and the pick noise doesn't bother me.

Went to the music school downstairs and the guy there said their thickest pick was 0.5mm ohmygad.

In other news, I found out uni officially starts in August. Which means three more months of holiday. It's crazy! Which means by the time school starts, I'd have spent nine months just lazing around.

Tried to search on stuff about how the uni system works because I'm completely clueless about it and I found this PDF document online about modular credits and the lengthy formula for calculating your cummulative average point and whatnot omg so confusing.

Anyway, blog quiz again.

1. What's your favourite colour?
Black, green, white, brown, blue.

2. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

My mom and dad and my best friends. Just because.

4. Are you a secretive person? Or are you more of an 'open book'?
Not sure, maybe open book.

5. Do you like to party?
No haha. Parties with a few close friends are cool but not the big, noisy kind of parties. Def not a party person.

6. What grade are you in?
By american standards, I've just graduated from high school. Getting old :(

7. What's your favourite school subject?
English

8. Sexual orientation?
Straight.

Reptiles and dogs and cats, though cats sometimes scare me a little.

Both. Can't do without either.

Nope, thank God.

Getting to travel and play more music!

15. What's your dream job?

Plus I learned a couple of new cheat codes yesterday ;)

Throw away your television

Yesterday night's jamming was really good. We sounded good and we had fun. Thing about big bands is even though it's hard to meet up, the conversation never runs dry and you feel more like a unit instead of individuals with separate roles.

I can't say how glad I am to have gotten to know them and be a part of them. The talented twins, the drummer who gives the best critique, the guitarist who's hands-down the most knowledgeable musician I've ever met, the great keyboardist who laughs at my jokes when no one else does.

Yesterday we played Basket Case and my song. Drummer kept saying "I really like your song" omg ego boost 20% hahahaha

Nothing much else to blog about.

Should I stop work end of May or end of June or in between? I can't decide gahhh

On one hand it's easy money and I will probably die of boredom since I was already rotting away when I had a one week break, but waking up at 5.30am every day is so :(((

Everybody Loves Wallace Wells

Shit Kieran Culkin, you're killing me.

Glory fades

The fever, the focus
The reasons that I had to believe you weren't too hard to sell
Die young and save yourself
The tickle, the taste of
They used to be the reasons I breathe but now it's choking me up
Die young and save yourself

I am terrible at goodbyes.

-

Met Lianne yesterday and we went to a nice place called Cups & Canvas. It's kind of out of the way but I guess that's good because it's always less crowded.

We shared pasta (Pesto Greeno and another one which was the creamy kind, I forgot the name) which was gooood and L got a sweet potato latte and I had a vanilla latte. So we sat there and read our books :) There was a veeeery cute baby at the table next to ours and Lianne went all starry-eyed HAHA (ok I did too)

Then, due to unforeseen circumstances, SJ had to come meet us HAHAHA. It was a leeeetle awkward, but still ok since both of them are more outgoing than me hahaha.

Then L went off to meet her boyfriend and SJ and I met with Dom, Linus and Jinx at bugis junction. Had SongFa for dinner then went to Timbre and met Div.

It was my virgin experience at Timbre, and it was pretty fun.

The live band Common People was really good, and our table was very noisy compared to the others. Bryan and WQ joined us later.

They asked for birthday boys and girls to go up, and the guys forced Jinx to go cause his birthday's next week. And he had to dance in the end and it was frigging funny.

But they thought his name was James so they kept calling us "James' table" hahaha.

I think we were the only table that made so much noise and stayed so long, so by the end they were like "James' table, how are you?" "James' table, any song requests?" "Thanks James' table, you've been here all the way from our first till our last set."

And we also texted a lot of nonsense to the song request number hahaha

Divided ourselves into 3 cabs and went home (It's so easy to get a cab at that hour omg one pulled up right as we hit the curb and all the cabs literally came one right after the other)

Reached home at 1.20am, dead tired. Haha.

Off to play neopets

This story's old but it goes on and on until we disappear

Found this while sifting through lookbook.nu yesterday.

Was like, oooh this guy is from Casablanca, Morocco. Then OHHH I was there OMG I recognise this place!

It was near the hotel we stayed at on our first and last nights, because it wasn't very far from the airport.

Kind of miss Morocco :( It's a great place. If the people there were a little warmer and the food was of Singaporean standard I'd probably want to move there already.

Omg which reminds me, I think I forgot to blog about it, a guy jokingly (I think) told my mom he wanted to marry me and said, "How many camels?" Hahahaha

Ok good night

Hold me closer, tiny dancer

Being extremely hungry and extremely sleepy sucks.

Wolfing down a bowl of soggy cereal now. Laptop battery is depleting at an increasingly rapid rate as we speak (18% right now).

Tripped over a pail and nearly fell in the bathroom just now, and as I was putting my folded clothes in my cupboard, a drawer was dislodged from its place and a pile of clothes came tumbling out.

But nothing's gunna get me down from the top of the world because I finally got my NUS offer package in the mail. I am so so happy!!

If only we had those American mailboxes, so I could freak out and run around waving my brown package in the air, like how The Wonders freaked out when they first heard themselves on the radio (Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpmnIpAXpig. Liv Tyler is so gorgeous, ugh.), best freak out scene ever.

Met up with SJ yesterday for dinner, she called me when I was playing Neopets at home and asked if I was free and I got my bum down to Tamp in 15 minutes. I'm such a great friend HAHA. We had curry udon and walked around Tampines1 with a cup of Laoban each, just like old times :) Then we went to the library and borrowed some interesting reads.

Sat down to read at Costa Coffee today after work at City Hall, then met up with Lumster today for dinner at Orchard for sushi, green tea and a slice of earl grey cake (plus a latte for her and Royal pudding for me). I had fun :)

Yay to the upcoming long weekend! Three days to rest. I am so stoked.

Papa was a copper and mama was a hippie

Heeeello.

Quite a few things to crap about today.

I had a good weekend, on saturday I woke up at 12pm, definitely the latest I've gotten up at in a while. It was a rainy morning so I kept thinking it was still really early and kept going back to sleep.

Checked my phone and I had a text from NUS saying there was an update to my application status. I freaked out a little, in a bad way, because the last time I was notified of an application status update, it was a rejection letter from Yale-NUS.

I was still really groggy too so I blearily thought to myself, shit, I'm not mentally prepared for this, I am not gonna start my morning like this, let's just pretend I didn't see this text for a little while.

But then curiosity, with a little bit of positivity, won over, and I ended up logging on within five minutes, and found out I was accepted. I think I couldn't really believe it, I checked the website five times that day, just kept reading the paragraph over and over like I was scared it was going to disappear anytime.

I never expected to get in, I thought my odds were about 25%, especially since I completely left out the essay section and neither did I meet the grade profile. But I did it, and I was just really shocked the whole day.

I was actually feeling depressed the night before because I started thinking about my A level results all over again and nearly worked myself into crying. It really is a dream come true for me, getting my first choice. It may not be much to some people, it's not Accounting or Business or Medicine, but it's definitely a big deal for me, because it's something I've always wanted.

It feels like enduring the past two years wasn't in vain after all. All the phases of depression, the crying, the skipping school, travelling to and fro places and getting chased out of places because I couldn't study at home, the various kinds of pressures, the tired eyes, the caffeine... everything was all worth it, finally.

I told my dad and I thought he'd be really happy but he was just like oh ok.
Me: -___-

I think one of my main sources of motivation was the desire to make my parents proud. Since I was a kid I've always felt the need to be better- to be good enough for my folks. Consciously or sub-consciously, I felt like my parents' only hope because my only other sibling, my older brother, turned out such a shitty person. So I was quiet, I tried to put in my best at school and I strived to be the exact opposite of him.

And I will always be thankful to my dad for refusing to let me quit JC in my first year. I thought it was the best decision at that time, but it wasn't, and my dad knew it and did his best to stop me, and for that I'm glad.

But anyways, I'm digressing hahaha.

So saturday afternoon I went to my cousin's house to meet my mom. I'm not a baby person but my youngest niece is soooo cute!! Attempted a glissando on the piano for the second time in my life, still did it wrong and again my finger bled. Ha ha.

Second niece showed me a song she wrote when she was P1. It was very interesting, she entitled it 'Nightmare Forest', which is pretty much what it sounds like. "I wrote it when I was P1 and I added the thunder in when I was P3." Her mom, my cousin, didn't like the piece much though, Fi had to ask her for permission to play it for me, haha.

I think it's very sweet because it reminds me of myself in my younger days, but as much as I love the music I listen to and am incredibly honoured that she's showing signs of taking after me, I wouldn't want her to start listening to heavier music, even when she's older.

Dinner was with my parents at a Peranakan place at Katong, it was goooood.

Then on Sunday, I met with half of the band, so altogether we made up two thirds of it. You do the math. Hahahaha. (Wait I just tried and realised that can't be solved, so never mind) (Wait, or can it?)

We tried out my song and it was really hard to get it to sound the way I imagined it to be haha but it was interesting trying out an original for the first time. And I don't play much guitar so it was really hard to do those parts.

Was a little frazzled after that because we separated, but I had no idea how to get to the nearest mrt and I couldn't get a cab. #sundayproblems

Finally managed to find one, then headed to DTE for the class gathering, which was... quite fail. Haha.

Just had dinner at a separate table from most of them, with my clique, then we walked around aimlessly for about 20min, then my group went home because there was a miscommunication and the other group headed off to have their dinner cause for some reason they didn't eat while we were eating earlier.

Started work as a receptionist at the school's general office on Monday. It was teeny bit awkward at first because literally everyone was walking past, doing a double take and saying, "Eh?! You moved down here?"

Haha but ya it's quite a good job I guess, at least I end early and punctually and I have really nice colleagues.

Ok bedtime, good night.

The little things I live by. Although I wouldn't encourage anyone on taking late-night life advice from me ahaha. (But who am I kidding, it's only 12.30am)

1. Life is too short to care about what everyone else thinks.

2. Love your parents and treat them good because they're the only ones who will always be there.

3. Don't expect anything to last forever. Treasure everything good but don't cling onto something that's faded.

4. The above applies for friendships as well.

5. Don't look out for things you don't want or have to hear.

6. Don't try to force your opinions onto anyone else.

7. Let people do whatever they want to unless it's illegal or hurting someone else.

8. Always put in your best for everything you get a shot at. You won't regret it.

9. Be proud of who you are, unless 'who you are' is a selfish prick.

10. You are never alone.

There's a love that knows the way

1.
Yesterday was goooood :) Met up with Shijia and we ate our usual ramen at Century. Glad our JC tradition of after-school ramen hasn't gotten old :) Then we watched Noah which was great, it was quite thought-provoking and I thought it tackled a few interesting issues. And please tell me I'm not the only one who thought the twin girls (SORRY spoiler) were meant to be wives for Noah's two younger sons since they didn't have brides. Hahaha.

Then we met Lumster at 313 and we hung around the town area and later had Eighteen Chefs' for dinner. We reminisced about old things and laughed about a lot of super random things on the train ride home and I think we looked high to the people around us. But it was so fun and funny hahahaha sigh I never would have survived JC without them.

2.
Weird, but follower count decreased by 3 today though I didn't unfollow anyone. If I seem to have unfollowed you, please tell me!

3.
Today was another day spent slacking away. Found a decent movie on cable, it was called Hours and I didn't know it was starring Paul Walker till I googled it, and I was like, oh it's him. Felt so sad.

Then I ate junk food all day and sat on the couch and watched Asian Food Channel. I guess it's weird that I don't cook (or rather, can't cook) but I really like watching cooking shows.

Oh then I watched the re-run of the last episode of Asia's Next Top Model. I am so glad that Sheena won!! While I've always liked Jodily, her over-confidence in the last episode was slightly off-putting. I mean, that look on her face after Katarina was booted off Top 3. Sheena really deserves it though.

4.
I landed a new job! Surprisingly it's back at my mom's school, but this time I'll be a receptionist at the General Office hahaha. Will probably have to run around doing errands as well. Hope it's not too taxing! The best part is the working hours though. I get let off the same time as the kids, which is 1pm.

5.
Band asked for originals and I plucked up the guts to show one of mine to them, and they liked it, I was so touched. We're even gonna try it out next sesh. I guess it sounds lame, but it really means a lot to me. Most girls feel really happy when people compliment their looks or their figures but I get happy when people say nice things about my playing or my writing.

And it makes me feel like writing again. I haven't written in years. Writing is so very exciting because there's all these things you can do and ways you can write and themes you can explore, and you've got the whole world to take on in front of you with just your pen and paper. Ahh, I feel inspired already. Haha.

6.
The hot chocolate drink, Swiss Miss is da bomb. It's literally like drinking melted chocolate. Many many love.

Missed the AHS one because we were in Taiwan. But heard it sucked anyway haha. And didn't go for the TPJ one.

27. What's the most physically painful thing you've ever experienced?

28. What's the most emotionally/mentally painful thing you've ever experienced?

29. Have you ever legitimately saved a person's life?
Nope.

This is the place where all the junkies go

1.
Got my bass amp... It's... AWESOME.

When I turn up the bass I feel like Chris Wolstenholme and like I can do anything and play Hysteria except I don't know the notes hahahaha and when I play I can actually feel the bass and it's greaaaat.

And when I turn up the treble I feel like Tom Delonge and like I can have fun and dance to the higher-frequency notes that for some reason I've always associated with pop punk.

I got up this morning and the first thing I did was look at my new amp and after I was done washing up I just went and plugged it in and had some fun with Rise Against.

2.
Jobless.

Being jobless is amazing and bad all at the same time, because on one hand I get to do whatever I like and go wherever I like. No responsibilities, no deadlines to meet, no timings, no worries. But on the other hand, I feel too free :( And it's only been 4 days. Feels like I'm back to square one, hunting for a job and willing to take whatever comes my way, at the cost of future regrets... -shudders at the memory of working at NTUC-

So, anyone has a job to offer me??

3.
Today was fun, Wums came over and we watched my Big Bang DVD that Lynchua gave me for my 14th birthday. Hard to think that was almost 5 years ago! :(

Then I tried to teach her some guitar... FOC lesson ok because she's showing mild interest in learning and asked me to teach her. We made some progress, she sort of got the C chord. Good job today Wums, I know you're reading this, I'm proud of you.

Then we walked to Tampines through the park connector for dinner. I never knew it was such a walkable distance! Definitely gonna walk there from now on if I ever need something from there. Save my $1.60 :))

4.
Tomorrow I'm gonna go out and get me some air... (like there isn't any around here ahaha)

It's nice knowing I could go anywhere. I could go to a cafe if I wanted, or City Hall, or Parkway Parade, or the airport, or just walk to Tampines. Yayzza.

Never kissed anyone.

That's kind of a deep question. I do, most of the time.

No :( I had a chance to meet Mayday Parade and I was initially really stoked to, but then their concert put me off cause it was a little lackluster so I didn't go in the end.

Never tried it. But I like most cheeses.

13. What are you listening to right now?
Play Crack The Sky by Brand New.

14. How many countries have you visited?
No idea. Favourite countries were Australia, Taiwan, South Korea and Morocco though. I really want to travel a lot more when I'm older.

Sometimes, but I'm fine with it cause I believe they know what's best for me.

16. Would you go sky diving?
I have no idea hahaha

17. Is there anything sparkly in the room you're in?
Not really.

20. Have you ever slapped someone?
Nope.

21. Are you sarcastic?

24. Have you ever crawled through a window?
Nope.

Scott Pilgrim

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: Best Clips.

Great movie, though it felt kind of weird and trippy so I didn't finish watching it. But they had a lot of great lines.

And, Kieran Culkin (who plays Wallace, Scott's gay roommate) might not be straight in the movie but holy shit, he was s-e-x-y.

I was wondering why in the world he was so familiar and at first I thought he was Michael Pitt (I was ready to freak out once I found out he was Michael Pitt, but then he really wasn't) and so I did my research and he's the brother of the guy who played the kid in Home Alone. Mystery solved.

Today was a good day, I finally found What's Eating Gilbert Grape? the full movie online, and watched it. It was really great and I thought Becky was a really relatable character. Johnny Depp and Leo DiCaprio, of course, amazing as always. Leo's portrayal of Arnie Grape, a mentally disabled 18-year-old, was flawless.

And I loved everything about it: the way they filmed it, the way they created the whole setting for Endora, a 'small, quiet town where nothing ever happens', and there were all these sort of stereotypical characters but they added dimensions to their personalities.

Then in the afternoon I went out and got my bass amp -insert starry-eyed emoji here- Sadly I didn't realise I forgot to buy a new cable so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to try it out at home, but still :)))

I'm hungry.

Saosin - I can tell

"If you keep asking me, I'll melt away in the summer air

It won't hurt half as much and I'll beg for you to stop it now"

Been obsessing over this song for some time now.

The awesome intro, the way Anthony Green just chokes out the words in the chorus, like gahh my gut. And usually stuff sounds better to me after some studio work but I love how it just sounds all raw and untouched, like a demo.

Great song.

I'm the rainbow in your jail cell

Nihao.

1.
Today was fun, Lianne and I were supposed to job-hunt at the airport but it wasn't very productive hahaha then we lepaked at CBTL. Spent yesterday with her as well, because she had the SMU interview too but at an earlier timing, so we met for dinner which was at Nando's, then had dessert at Ji De Chi (Literally 'Remember to eat', and I would type it in chinese but I didn't dl the chinese keyboard on my laptop, oh no, I am a disappointment to my people).

It was all fun and we laughed at weird things (like she silently made fun of a sleeping guy on the train, poorthing, and I laughed till my non-existent abs hurt). Thank you Lianne, I love you many many. #bffs

AND we love you too Tania, don't worry!!! -insert emojis here-

2.
I am going to buy my new bass amp tomorrow and I am so so so stoked for it!!!

3.
On a completely random note, I think my writing skills have gotten from bad to worse. I used to be able to write really fast. (One time in Econs, I managed to vomit 14 pages of writing in 2h 15min. Best part? Our teacher didn't mark it.)

But I find that I'm writing so slowly now :( Which makes me think of uni. I think I'm the only one not excited for it at all. I mean, what's there to be excited about haha

4.
And yes, my last day of work was yesterday! I always thought it'd be kind of weird to work with my mom, especially with her desk coincidentally being right next to the teacher I was relieving for the past 7 weeks. But it turned out pretty great because she gave me lots of good advice and I honestly think I learnt a lot from the past 10 or 11 weeks. While it was stressful and I definitely wouldn't do it again, I don't regret doing it. Does that make sense? Haha.

Although I don't think I'll miss the little monsters, one thing I'll miss for sure is the really good pai gu mian (pork ribs noodle) from the coffee shop next to the school. The gravy is thick and just right, the meat is cooked till it just falls off the bone and the noodles are so savoury... yum yum I want some right now. Back then, I ate it almost every day in school hahaha.

Ok time to play some Neopets before I turn in.

Good night!

Welp.

Early for my SMU interview.

(Ooh nice girl opposite me just offered everyone mints)

This is so awkward I feel like laughing ha ha ha we're all just sitting in a semi-circle waiting.

Listening to the most brutal metalcore in my library to calm me down.

This is the most LOL thing ever I swear hahaha (another girl just joined us and awkwardly smiled hello)

A nice warm campfire in the middle of our little circle may just help break the ice (punny HAHA)

Ok sorry. I'll just stop phone-blogging now and pretend to be cool like everyone else.

Byebye

(Edit: The only guy here just started stretching intensely like he was gonna run a damn marathon oh my god I think I'm going to cry)

Don't forget me

Sickass song. So damn psychedelic.

Definitely my favourite RHCP song so far, aside from maybe By The Way.

I'm at City Hall now, just finished marking this pile of worksheets that took one and a half hours, and it was only one assignment! So glad it's all gonna be over tomorrow haha. Everyone was coming up and saying, "Wow, so tomorrow's your last day."

It's been a very trying six weeks teaching English, Math, Science and SS to this class, not mentioning carrying out basic form teacher duties. Had to mark and mark and chase students for their Edusave forms and occasionally yell at some of them. I have never had violent tendencies, but 15 hours a week with 34 pupils... well, you try and tell me.

By now. I can even take one look at their handwriting and tell you who wrote the assignment. I know who can't write their 'g's properly, who can't form proper sentences, who are the ones good at Math and who are the ones who stubbornly refuse to write their '4's and '5's the way I tell them to.

I swear in 10 years I'm going to Google the bums out of them and see what they've been up to. Gotta write their names down somewhere man...

Aneeways, got a couple more things to do before I'll go find dinner. Happy hump day to all! We're halfway through the week.

Oh, and yesterday was probably my first April Fools' not getting to prank anyone. I remember all the naughty things we did in secondary school ahaha. A couple of years, L and T stuffed wasabi in Colon biscuits and offered them to their friends (I might've had a small part in that). Then in sec4, the girls in my class wore our hair in two high ponytails and went round school like that for the rest of the day. Prolly got judged but it was fun, we all looked like cocker spaniels.

Ok bbye
